For as long as I can remember, I have always felt a sense of loneliness. That feeling of loneliness wasn't a constant sensation. Indeed, it mostly manifested whenever I was in a large group or when I had extended myself with work and study.
I am fortunate to be studying a subject I feel passionate about. This period of study has stretched me over several weeks with little rest. It was during this intense yet enjoyable time of meetings, writing papers, reading journals, and attending seminars and lectures that I called Catherine, feeling a sense that something was wrong.
Catherine is very good at listening. She listened to my ramblings about my loneliness and responded by asking specific questions, clarifying the positive function of loneliness in a way that I could understand. Catherine empowered me with techniques to release painful emotions, including the benefits of complementary therapy.
It was a revelation that after several years of feeling a sense of loneliness amidst friends and family, the solution to feeling connected could be conveyed in a few short words during a very effective call.
While it was not easy to change, my stubborn side persevered. Now, I feel confident going to meetings, meeting friends, seeing family, and I even enjoy my own company surrounded by others. Recently, I have also explored foot massage as a form of relaxation, guided by a qualified reflexologist, which has further enhanced my sense of well-being.
